Description: ‘Modified Macramé’ was a project created for Tactile & Environmental Design, a course taken in Spring 2019. We were required to create an entirely new packaging concept and sellable product from recycled materials and objects we found. I have a passion for plants and a slight green thumb, so naturally I wanted to create something that fell within that vein. I took and old t-shirt, cut into strips, braided and sown together to create a macrame plant hanger. The packaging is an old mason jar, that also serves as a pot to house the plant, and fits perfectly into the macrame. The paper wrapping, is a kinetic mechanism that fits perfectly around the jar, that when folded together, allows for easy and secure carry. I wanted to create a packaging mechanism that would be minimal in waste, amount of ink, and paper used. Which is why it is a simple, recycled sleeve with minimal color with typefaces that match the overall aesthetic.

The back of the paper wrap contains a small informational paragraph to give potential buyers the background information they will need for this product. It states, “Thank you for buying a modified macramé plant hanger! The hanger is made of recycled t-shirts and is assembled by hand. The macramé hanger is actually made to fit the mason jar packaging perfectly, so please use the jar to grow and house your little plants! Hang you modified macramé in your window to keep your plant happy and healthy!”
