97th Floor | Graphic Designer
I was drawn to 97th Floor by the company’s goal to create meaningful designs while keeping a strong connection between client and consumer, and would love an opportunity to interview for this position. I believe I would be a good addition to the team at 97th Floor because of the experience and skills I have developed through my education and the opportunities I have had. I was nominated for and selected to be the 2019-2020 Student of Excellence for the Art and Design Program and Winona State. This honor is given to one student within each college at the University and is selected and voted on by the faculty.
The Winona State I-Design department puts a strong emphasis on mastering the skills of multitasking, time management, and organization by challenging us to complete multiple projects each focused on a range of topics all at once. They encourage experimentation, hybrid collaboration, and a continuous evolvement of skills and knowledge. We were required to complete bimonthly research, learning the new trends within the industry and incorporating those within our everyday practices in the program. Along with the knowledge gained from the courses, I gained invaluable experience from my year long internship and part-time design position, both at the University. I learned how to communicate with those who have a different educational background, effectively apply and handle criticism, work in teams and individually to create successful designs and strategies, and pay close attention to detail. Both have given me experience and practice working across multiple platforms on a variety of projects simultaneously, many times under a tight deadline. However, I have found that constraint often breeds creativity. I have also completed a number of successful campaigns for a range of departments and organizations on campus and off, creating an identity, branding standards, and marketing strategies.
Due to my background in the sciences, I have learned to love data; comparing and creating infographics, working with organizations or companies who are interested in their carbon footprint, and creating campaigns or promotions that can not only benefit the company but also benefit the world. I love strategizing and putting those plans into action and getting measurable results. There is no better way to create traction for a company than utilizing an idea that endusers and customers can see a direct relation to their lives. Keeping companies connected to their audiences as well as the world around them and their overall impact, is vital to their success.
Being able to work in a company that values its employees, emphasizes teamwork and creates meaningful and beneficial designs and strategies for a variety of companies, is exactly what I want to do and where I want to be. The years I have spent practicing design and being a creative problem solver have given me the drive to work hard, the desire to keep learning, and continue to strive for successive improvement and I hope to be considered for this position.
